Final Project

After we did the change series I found out that I want to play around with oil and soft pastels a little more and see what kind of effects that I can achieve with them and also continuing with natural disasters/weather theme. So far the first piece I decided to do a thunderstorm and trying to achieve a lightning effect. I think this could be better and I definitely need more practice to achieve a better lightning effect.
For the second piece for the final I decided to do a drought. Out of all three this one is my least favorite. It needs something more to it, but I'm not completely sure what it is. I think it is also missing some depth and some shadows. I think it does a good job of showing barrenness which is what I wanted it to. I tried my best to give the sun a hazy effect and I think it somewhat came out.
For the third and final piece for the final series I decided to do a flood. This one is probably my favorite. I really like how this one came out. The water helps to give movement in this piece.

Change Series #4- Volcano in Colored Pencil

For my last piece in the change series I decided to use a medium that I'm use to. So I decided on colored pencils. Originally, with this I planned to have dinosaurs running away from the lava, but I scrapped that idea and instead just went with the volcano pouring down and burning up the landscape. First, I sketched this piece out and then decided how each part was going to be colored.

The change in this piece is a change in perspective, time of volcanic activity, and a medium change.

Change Series #3- Volcano in Soft Pastel

For this one I went back to a similar perspective as the first piece in the series. I sketched out the volcano first and then used soft pastels to color it. Sketching it first was kind of a mistake because when I started to color the lava the pencil underneath started to smudge and show through. I tried to save this by adding a little black to the lave exploding out.
The change in this piece includes a change back to the first perspective, change in volcano activity, and a change in medium.

Change Series #2- Volcano in Oil Pastel

For this piece I wanted to do a different approach. So I drew the volcano from the top to show the volcano bubbling up before it explodes. So far this piece has been the most fun to make and I think I might have found a new favorite medium.
The changes in this piece a change in perspective, change in volcano activity, and a change in medium.
